What we offer

Four ways to take part, common to both strands: Innovate for Open Science and Innovate with Open Science. Each one explains what you get, who it is for and how to start.

Ways to take part
Use

Use what already works

Integrate trusted open research data, analytics and services into your products, platforms and research, instead of building them from scratch.

The OpenAIRE Graph

400M+ records from 10,000+ global data sources: publications, datasets, software, clinical trials, patents, authors, organisations, funders and projects, across all disciplines.
Typical uses: research discovery, AI grounding, expert finding, market intelligence.

Indicators and analytics

Research impact metrics, funder compliance monitoring, Open Science uptake indicators and innovation foresight analytics. Ready to integrate, or extend for your own use cases.
Typical uses: dashboards for funders, institutions and publishers.

Services and tools

Data management plan tools, monitoring dashboards, metadata validators and broker services. Use them as they are, white-label them under your brand, or co-develop new ones with our teams.
Typical uses: services for your own users, without building the backend.

How to start

Explore the public API and documentation. If you need custom integration, higher volumes or support, get in touch and we will discuss the right arrangement.

Co-create

Build something new together

Work with our teams to design and build new indicators, tools, standards and services. You bring domain expertise and a use case; we bring data, infrastructure and a community built over more than a decade.

Innovation pilots

Test an idea on OpenAIRE data and services through an open call, with technical mentoring along the way.
Typical uses: research discovery, AI grounding, expert finding, market intelligence.

Co-developed services

Develop a new indicator, tool or service with a joint team, from specification to launch. Ownership, licensing and maintenance are agreed before work starts.
Best for: organisations with domain expertise and a product need.

Infrastructure components

Build on repository platforms, registries, aggregation pipelines and content provisioning services: the backbone that 10,000+ data sources across the world already rely on.
Best for: platforms and infrastructures that need proven building blocks.

How to start

Apply when an open call is open, or send us a short proposal for a joint service through the partner form.

Contribute

Give back to the commons

Everyone who uses open knowledge can also contribute to it. What participants share strengthens open science for everyone, and is recognised and attributed.

Open data and metadata

Share datasets, enriched metadata or links between research outputs that improve the OpenAIRE Graph. Contributions are attributed to your organisation.
Examples: classifications, entity links, quality corrections.

Open-source tools

Release tools or components built during a collaboration as open source, so others can reuse and improve them.
Examples: connectors, validators, analysis notebooks.

Evidence for policy

Share insights and use cases from your work that inform Open Science policy, standards and the development of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).
Examples: case studies, requirements, feedback on standards.

How to start

Tell us what you could share. We agree the format, licence and attribution with you before anything is published.

Grow

Shape new rules and grow skills together

Open science and AI need new techno-legal frameworks: new forms of IP and licensing, data governance, digital sovereignty and security. Co-create them with our legal, policy and technical experts and test them in practice. And because new rules need new skills, we also look for innovative ways of training and learning.

Techno-legal co-creation labs

Design new forms of IP, licensing and data governance with us: licences for AI training on research data, attribution and benefit-sharing models, machine-readable licences and data-sharing agreements. We test them in policy sandboxes before they are adopted.
For: legal, policy and product teams, funders and infrastructures.

Sovereignty and security

Keep research data, infrastructure and AI under European control and protected: trusted and federated access, secure processing environments for sensitive data, data residency, and protection of research security, in line with EOSC and European cybersecurity rules.
For: infrastructures, institutions and teams handling sensitive or strategic data.

Compliance and legal clarity

Practical guidance on the AI Act, DSM Directive, Data Governance Act and GDPR, with model clauses and checklists for reusing open research data.
For: teams training or grounding AI on research data.

New ways to learn

Go beyond the classroom: co-design AI-assisted learning, hands-on sandboxes with real OpenAIRE data, challenge-based and peer learning, and micro-credentials. Alongside these, OpenPlato courses, bootcamps and staff exchanges in open science, FAIR data and responsible AI, plus support for FAIR certification.
For: trainers, universities, learning innovators and teams building skills.

How to start

Bring an IP, licensing or security question to a co-creation lab, propose a new learning format, or contact us to plan training or legal guidance for your team.
